Sam Thomasson is an electrical engineer and entrepreneur who has spent his career developing new technologies in the medical device and consumer electronics industries.

Mr. Thomasson, who holds a BSEE and MBA, began his career with Motorola, working in the semi-conductor arena.  He was also employed as an engineering manager by VLSI and Medtronic, before founding Acoustic Technologies and Zounds Hearing.

Sam Thomasson is also the father of a hearing-impaired daughter. Witnessing first-hand her frustration with her hearing aids, and the impact her hearing impairment had on her quality of life, was a turning point in his career. Mr. Thomasson changed his career focus and dedicated himself to developing a superior hearing aid for his daughter. The result of his efforts is the revolutionary technology of Acoustic Technologies and Zounds Hearing.

At Acoustic Technologies, which he founded, Mr. Thomasson created high-performance semiconductor chips and related software with low power usage algorithms that dramatically improved voice and sound quality in cell phones, video phones, desktop phones, conference call phones and automotive communication systems. Acoustic’s customers included Siemens, Nokia, Motorola, LG, Garmin and Tom-Tom. Mr. Thomasson next focused on leveraging these technological breakthroughs to further hearing technology.  A few examples of this ground-breaking technology include advancements in noise cancellation, feedback elimination, usage analytics and live speech mapping for improved programing, and rechargeability.

Mr. Thomasson has been awarded over 50 patents, most in the area of acoustics and hearing technology, with additional patents in the areas of medical devices and clean energy.
